New Windscreen

Posted on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in General Advice

Just had a new windscreen installed in the Bravo. new-windscreen.jpg Driving from Newcastle back to the Central Coast on the F3. It was Friday Afternoon and the weekend was looking good. Then BANG! A nice big stone chip from the back tyres of a truck.

Well, a chip repair will be in order..

Decided to clean it properly before I had it repaired. But applying pressure on the windscreen while cleaning it is not recommended.  What was a mere repair was now a new windscreen. Well there goes a few hundred dollars I thought.

Open up the Yellow Pages and search for a Windscreen Repairer on the Central Coast and Bingo. Yates Windscreens.

One Hillarious phone call later and I was set to have it replaced the following morning. Total Cost was less than $200.00!

Now that is cheap in anyones language. And they were so professional and good to deal with that I’m compelled to give them the good rap they desrve.

So if your Windscreen needs repairs or replacing give them a call. It’s cheaper than you think.

(02) 43512443 for the Central Coast
(02) 49470222 for Newcastle, Hunter Valley yates-screen-saver.jpg

I’ll keep these Complimentary Windscreen Patches in the glove box to cover the chips untill there repaired.

Cheers.

TV Antenna

Posted on Friday, March 20, 2009 in General Advice

Is it Antenna or Antennea? Or could it be just TV Aerial?

Well I needed a new one or an upgrade. Our reception was OK during normal weather.  But, when it was windy our Digital Reception would cut in and out. Very anoying if your in the middle of something interesting.

First call was to a local Central Coast Firm who I spotted driving around the Erina area.  This jogged my memory to get the Antenna fixed.  I called the firm the next day and aranged for a visit and quote. They arrived earlier than expected without a phone call to advise. (first mistake).  Then they entered my home. The first guy just walked straight in without even wiping his feet or asking if shoes were ok.  We have polished floor boards throughout. The second guy did wipe his feet. Don’t call me picky, but I thought it was just common decency.

I showed them where the Antenna was located on the roof from the back yard. The grass was covered in dew, but again when he re-entered the house he did not wipe his feet. He was very abrupt and did not listen to anything I requested. He suggested a new Antenna and a Booster and both to be relocated to the front of the house. I said that I did not want or need a booster. My reasons were that I didn’t want a booster continuously drawing power and the added cost of the unit.  He did not check any of the wiring, the Antenna or the connections to see if there was a problem that may be easily fixed. The only thing he checked was the connection on the TV in Anolog mode not digital.
So a quick look, no tests and a quote for $275.00!

Then he said there were no guarantees because I still did not have a direct line of site to the transmitting tower.

He gave me his card and said that if I change my mind to give him a call.

NOT LIKELY!

I hope you have a better time with your next Tradesperson.
Looks like I’ll be doing the job myself.  I think I’ll start at the Antenna and work my way to the the TV. I’ll firstly check alll the connections for corrosion and clean then accordingly.  Then I’ll get on the roof which is only 1500mm off the ground at the back of the house and accessable with a small step ladder. After checking al the connections up there the next thing will be adjusting the direction of the Antenna to see if it can get a better signal.

I’ll keep you all posted on the progress and results.

Cheers
